Fr. Howard and Deacon Erin Giles
"I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deaconess of the church at Cen'chre-ae, that you may receive her in the Lord as befits the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself as well." Romans 16:1-2
Deacon Erin Giles was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University in 1997 and served for one year with the Lutheran Volunteer Corp at the Howard Community Center in Chicago.
She and Fr. Howard met on the first day of orientation at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) in Berkeley, California. Deacon Erin graduated with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Christian Ethics. She was ordained to the Diaconate in 2003. She is an instructor at the San Joaquin School for Ministry, teaching Christian Ethics and Moral Theology. She also serves as the examining chaplain in Christian Ethics and Moral Theology for the Diocese. She leads the annual Jesus the Good Shepherd Women's Retreat (planned this year for October 2012) and teaches the D Class in our ABCD Class Series.
Deacon Erin homeschools their four children, and is passionate about Spiritual Motherhood and Discipleship. erin@vegasanglican.org
"And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed." Acts 14:23
Fr. Howard was raised in Southern Nevada, proud to be a second generation native in a historically transient locale. He attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and returned to complete a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2000.
Two weeks after defending his master's thesis, Fr. Howard met Deacon Erin at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) and fell in love! He completed a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency year at the McFarland Institute in New Orleans, Louisiana. In that residency year, Fr. Howard served as a chaplain with the New Orleans Police Department and their Mobile Psychiatric Crisis Unit. Upon his return, Fr. Howard and Deacon Erin were married at All Saints, Palo Alto and graduated with an M.Div. the following year.
Fr. Howard was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John-David Schofield in October of 2005. After serving three wonderful churches in the Central Valley of California, the Lord called Deacon Erin and Fr. Howard to Southern Nevada to found Jesus the Good Shepherd.
With four wonderful children, a beautiful wife, and the support of family and friends, Fr. Howard is blessed to serve this unique Christian community. Fr. Howard is passionate about the Sacraments and about describing Anglicanism, not as a denomination, but as one of the three branches of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
